Cold fill

Compounds for cold fill are divided into three categories: acrylic, polyester and epoxy. They can consist of two or more components that must be mixed before casting of specimens and curing. Epoxy resins have a low coefficient of expansion. A great time of curing epoxy compounds gives excellent edge retention and very low shrinkage, they are also chemically resistant. Acrylic compounds have a very short curing time and low expansion coefficient, they can add filler, and cure under pressure, for example at Technomat. From Polyester resins, the curing time is relatively short, but often get a low quality fitting, it is justified by their low cost.

After the components are mixed, which starts the exothermic curing process. the process of curing, in particular of acrylic compounds is accompanied by heating above 80 0C, so working with materials sensitive to elevated temperatures, such as plastics, need to be careful, as there can be effects on the structure of the material.
